“Greeks and Turks Sing Together”, live at Kazarma.

Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS invites you to the concert “Greeks and Turks Sing Together”, to be held on Wednesday 3 July at 9pm, at the Venetian fortress of Kazarma, in Sitia. The event, which is organised by Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS and the Municipality of Sitia, is under the wing of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Admission is free.
Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS initiated the creation of a music group consisting of Greek and Turkish musicians, who will perform live a series of folk songs that are common in the two ethnicities, as well as songs written by the iconic Greek composer Manos Loizos, translated in Turkish, and songs written by the influential author, poet, musician and politician Omer Zulfu Livaneli (who was awarded at the recent Thessaloniki Book Fair), translated in Greek.
The group consists of the following musicians:
The Turkish Ali Fuat Ayadin (saz), Mehmet Ali Orman (clarinet), Asli Kurt Ayadin (voice).
The Greek Kyriakos Gouventas (violin), Maria Ploumi (lute), Evie Kanellou (Eastern percussion), Nikos Taleas (keyboards), Maria Fragouli (voice).
The Greek-Turkish Foteini Kokkala (kanun).
There will be three concerts: July 3 in Sitia, July 4 in Rethymnon and July 5 in Ierapetra. Next year the group will perform in Athens, Thessaloniki, Smyrna and Istanbul.
