“Food Security and Dietary Integration: A Study on Migrants in Crete” – A Speech by Dr. Ioannis Sfendourakis.

You are invited to attend the speech by Dr. Ioannis Sfendourakis titled: “Food Security and Dietary Integration: A Study on Migrants in Crete – Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis Conclusions”, which will take place at the premises of Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS (97, V. Kornarou St, Sitia), on Saturday March 15, at 19:00.

The event will be opened by the dentist, stage director and member of the Managing Committee of Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS, Dr. Nassos Zagotis, as well as the members of the three-member Advisory Committee of the speaker’s doctoral thesis, Dr. Georgios A. Fragiadakis (Associate Professor, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Hellenic Mediterranean University) and Dr. Christos Lemonakis (Associate Professor, Department of Administrative Science and Technology, Hellenic Mediterranean University).

Through the presentation of the conclusions of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of this research, a set of data and information is provided, regarding the way the local food system functions, as well as the extent to which it affects the transition of foreign migrants to the new dietary environment of the host country. The study records the dietary needs and habits of the specific social group by looking into the experiences of the research participants, concerning food security and dietary integration into the host community. This research, which documents the dietary experiences of foreign migrants residing in Crete, serves as a valuable source of information within the framework of the intercultural process of cultural integration and at the same time lays the foundations for the development of effective state policies and interventions aimed at further improving the living conditions of the specific social group.
