Photography exhibition: “Sitia Of The Past – School Memories 1910-1970”

Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS invites you to an emotional journey back in time, on the occasion of the exhibition “Sitia of the past – School memories 1910-1970” opening, which will be held at the premises of Stegi, on Wednesday 5 March 2025, at 19:30.

The exhibition is dedicated to the school life of Sitia during the specific period, and brings about memories of days gone by as it sheds light on almost forgotten moments in class, festive events, excursions, and other important occasions of student life, as seen through rare photographs and documents dating from the early 20^th century to the 1970s.

What was school like in Sitia a century ago? Who were the teachers and students who were captured on film? From wooden pencil cases and writing slates to the first school excursions and the student uniforms, this exhibition brings back faces, places, customs, practices, and minutiae that made up a whole world which shaped generations of Sitians.

The exhibition was curated by Dimitris Tiniakos, and will be held at the ground floor of Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS (97, V. Kornarou St., Sitia).
