“Catalonia and Crete: The Message to His Majesty George I, King of the Greeks”, by Eusebi Ayensa Prat (Hellenist, translator, University teacher, President of the Asociación Cultural Hispano-Helénica).

Stegi Vitsentzos Kornaros invites you to its next on-line lecture, titled: “Catalonia and Crete: The Message to His Majesty George I, King of the Greeks”, by Eusebi Ayensa Prat (Hellenist, translator, University teacher, President of the Asociación Cultural Hispano-Helénic), on Wednesday 3 March 2023, at 7pm.

The subject of the talk is a proclamation made in 1897 to George I, King of the Greeks, by Catalonia, through which it manifested its support to the decision of the Hellenic administration of the time to dispatch a naval squadron to Crete, led by Prince George. In that way, Catalonia essentially conveyed its support to the Cretan Revolt against the Ottoman rule, and applauded the wish of the Cretans that Crete be annexed to Greece. This declaration of support of the Catalan people was signed by the representatives of 40 political, cultural and Press bodies of Catalonia.

You can watch the lecture live on Facebook (Stegi Vitsentzos Kornaros) or on Zoom (https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81811495232), where you can participate in the discussion.
A couple of working days after the lecture, it will be available on Stegi Vitsentzos Kornaros’ You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClrAK7Y6H_QPscSDh2g-VXA
