You are invited to attend a free live Cretan music evening with Dimitris Sgouros on Friday, June 27, at Foundalidou Pedestrian Street in Sitia, next to the Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS premises, at 21:00.
Dimitris Sgouros will present a programme featuring authentic music of Crete. He will perform songs from his discography as well as selected traditional Cretan songs that highlight the richness, resilience and beauty of the Cretan soul, delivered with his unique personal style, skill and passion. Sgouros’s music is deeply infused with the colours of Eastern Crete, his birthplace. Following the path laid by the great lyra-masters Kirlimbas and Dermitzogiannis, he plays not only the lyra but also the lyraki, an instrument which was widely used in the past. This has significantly contributed to its dissemination and it has increased its use among younger lyra players.
Dimitris Sgouros will be accompanied by exceptional musicians with whom he has collaborated for years, sharing a strong and genuine friendship: Dimitris Sideris and Manolis Pagkalos on the laouto, and Giannis Papatzanis on percussion.
