The Crete Astronomy Friends Club and Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS invite you to a scientific lecture titled: “A Journey Through the Universe,” which will take place on Sunday, May 4 2025, at 19:30, at the premises of Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS (97, V. Kornarou St, Sitia).
The keynote speaker, Manos Saridakis, is Research Director of the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications & Remote Sensing (IAASARS) and a distinguished scientist at the National Observatory of Athens. Mr. Saridakis will take the audience on a journey through the wondrous mysteries of the Universe, offering an easy to understand, inspiring perspective on the latest scientific discoveries and questions about the nature of our world.
Manos Saridakis received his degree in Physics in 1999 from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and his Master’s degree in 2000 from Imperial College (UK). In 2006, he obtained his Ph.D. in Cosmology from the Physics Department of NKUA. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Physics Department of NKUA, at the Institut de Physique Théorique Saclay (France), at National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan), and at the Physics Department of the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens. He has served as a visiting professor at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (France), at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Valparaiso (Chile), and as an Assistant Professor under P.D. 407 at the Physics Department of the SAMPS/NTUA. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the Physics Department of Baylor University (USA) since 2015 and a Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Science and Technology (China) since 2018. In 2019, he was elected Principal Researcher (Researcher B’ level) at IAASARS/National Observatory of Athens.
