On Friday April 26 2024, at 19:30, the opening of Asteris Gekas’ exhibition “Votive Offerings to the Future of Before” will take place on the ground floor of the Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS premises in Sitia (97, Vitsentzou Kornarou St.).
The artist was born in Thessaloniki in 1954. He studied mainly in Athens, however as he himself states, the impact of the teaching of the Sitian artist Nikos Michelidakis has been fundamental to his work. During the 50 years of his career, Asteris Gekas has participated in more than 100 art exhibitions in Greece and around the world.
“These are my offerings – my wishes I would like to see become miracles. My hopes and wishes for the Present and the Future. The notes that I’ve kept during my time of service in art and life, along with the mark that the past has left on me. It’s my wish to resist fear, using the optimism offered by the power of Colour and everything that I hold as holy and sacred. It’s a prοposal to all free thinkers who carry potent values from the past, to aim at new targets and dream of new dreams”.
