2025 International Conference “With Knowledge and Method: Issues of the Poetics and the Reception of Erotokritos”, Sitia, 18-20 July 2025.

Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS will be hosting an international scientific conference titled: “With Knowledge and Method: Issues of the Poetics and the Reception of Erotokritos”. This meeting, the fourth in a series of specialized conferences focusing on the creation and the literary qualities of Erotokritos, is closely following its journey and influence on literature, the fine arts, and the folk tradition of our region. It will take place in Sitia, from July 18 to 20 2025, with the physical attendance of the participants.

The conference will focus on issues related to: the literary qualities of Erotokritos and of the poetic skill of Vitsentzos Kornaros, as they emerge through the poet’s discourse with Greek and European literature, shaped under the influence of Greco-Roman tradition during the early modern period. Evidence of the radiance of the Cretan Renaissance and of Erotokritos in cultural environments where Kornaros’s poem and Hellenic education played a dominant role in shaping and forging the Neo-Hellenic cultural identity from the 18th century to the present day, will also be sought.
