Stegi Vitsentzos Kornaros organizes an international academic conference entitled “With Knowledge and Method: Issues of Poetics and Reception of Erotokritos.” This meeting, the fourth in a series of specialized conferences focusing on the genesis and literary character of Erotokritos, also examines its course and influence on literature, the fine arts, and folk tradition. The conference will take place in Sitia from July 18 to 20, 2025, with the physical presence of participants.

The conference will focus on issues related to the literary study of Erotokritos and the poetic art of Vitsentzos Kornaros, as these emerge through the poet’s dialogue with Greek and European literature, shaped under the influence of the Greco-Roman tradition during the early modern period. It will also explore evidence of the impact of the Cretan Renaissance and Erotokritos across cultural contexts and among creators in whom Kornaros’ work and Greek education played a defining role in shaping cultural identity, from the 18th century to the present day.
