The Department of Philology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is awarding Dr. David W. Holton, a renowned Modern Greek scholar and Emeritus Professor at the University of Cambridge, a Ηonorary Doctorate degree.

The ceremony of the honorary inauguration of Dr. David W. Holton will take place at the old Philosophy Hall at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on Wednesday 23 October 2024, at 6 pm, with a commendation delivered by Assistant Professor Konstantinos Giavis. A talk by the honoree, titled “The Importance of the 16th Century Modern Greek Literature”, will follow. The ceremony will be concluded with a few musical renditions of Erotokritos’ excerpts, chosen by Professor Holton himself – a scholar known for his dedication of a significant part of his studies to Vitsentzos Kornaros’ masterpiece. A small banquet will take place afterwards.

The ceremony is under the auspices of the Special Account for Research Funding/A.U.Th. and Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS.
